A prayer in the face of undeclared war.

God, help us.

The monsters are loose,

Egos unchained, entitled and violent,

Feckless and cruel,

dressed to kill in desperate decorum and expensive suits.

God help us.

The graceless grifters are grabbing,

At the poor and the vulnerable,

The migrant, the protesting pastor and the vigilant inflatable frog.

Grabbing our due process and human rights,

grabbing our healthcare subsidies, vaccines and all the safety nets

we so desperately need to mend.

God help us, they are hungry for more.

Grabbing tankers and bombing boats

Grabbing a president from his home,

Making us all well outfitted pirates,

World class bullies, fabricating and spinning

Sending in the troops and industry

And it’s all going to be great, again.

God help us when we reap what we sow.

Help us create something new and vast and holy.

Help us find resolve seeded deep within

that is more ancient than any notion of shame or sin.

Help us plant real justice, real accountability

Real compassion and mercy in new seeds that

bring life and bring it abundantly.

May it be so

Amen.
