Adding Some Fizzy Pizzazz

First of all, I don’t dare say no to Rev. Deb. Not because she’s “infiltrated by demons” or a “disobedient, anti-God woman pastor” as her spiritually challenged enemies will say…but because she is a fierce activist who is always willing to defend brave, affirming spaces and a loving God. If Rev Deb smells something cruel and inhumane and asks for help, I’m there. Mostly, because she’s always there for US.

Welcome, my name is Lisa Schulze. I’m the Sr Education and Training Director of the Women’s Fund of Omaha and have been in this position for a decade now. We fight for all people experiencing gender-based oppression, through education, research and advocacy. We specifically address economic insecurity, the status of women’s leadership, gender-based violence and sexual literacy. The Urban Abbey is an incredible collaborator on all these issues. I am here THRILLED to celebrate their ongoing expansion into this joyful new space, well deserved!

This strong partnership exists to provide important opportunities for people of all ages connected to our shared mission of equity, autonomy and access. Within the past year,

  • We have created a sex education class for elementary students on online safety

  • Created a book club for parents and caregivers interested in having sex positive talks with their children

  • Read children’s books to young ones about gender identity, pronouns, the diversity of the sizes and shapes of our beautiful bodies and safe and unsafe touch

  • Been the recipient of $600 through their community partner program

  • Created fun speed networking spaces for adult women, femmes and non-binary folx through our Circles leadership group

  • And…have schemed and dreamed about new collabs this fall – stay tuned for something divinely witchy that will slay the patriarchy!!

So many things! But truly, what I love about Urban Abbey is the collective effervescence they curate. I love this concept: that sociological concept describing the intense energy, harmony and sense of unity that occurs when a group of people gathers for a shared purpose or ritual. It’s that twitterpation that I get when I’m at my favorite music concert. They add fizzy pizzazz to all sorts of gatherings! It allows us to step outside of ourselves and feel connected to something much larger. People can call that god, I call it community and connection that is accessible to all, regardless of beliefs. I love Urban Abbey, I love Rev Deb and I love your staff. I have worked closely with Sarah, Gab, and Isa with great joy. I know the entire team does amazing things. I can’t wait to see what comes next!!
